Nokia has shown that mid-range 3G devices can be stylish, pushing the aesthetic boundaries with the launch of the new Nokia 6555 clamshell handset. The device features a smooth design with a recessed hinge that creates a seamless look when the device is opened, producing a gentle curve to complement the sleek range of colors.
The Nokia 6555 includes a QVGA resolution display capable of showing up to 16 million colors, something that usually isn't seen in a handset in this price range. A camera with 4x digital zoom is also present for quick snaps, which can be saved to the 30MB of internal memory or a microSD memory card.
This quad-band GSM device also supports the 2100MHz and 850MHz UMTS bands so that Europeans will be able to roam onto North America 3G networks when travelling. To increase the design appeal of the Nokia 6555, the manufacturer has even included an analogue clock on the outside of the flip, and Bluetooth connectivity comes standard.
Nokia has not announced in which markets the new 6555 will be available, though a handset with a similar silhouette has recently been approved by the FCC for release in the US. Nokia has stated, however, that the 6555 is not slated for a US release at this time. In any case, when available, the Nokia 6555 will carry a recommended retail price of just 200EURO
