Intel has some big ideas and big devices which are going to be out very soon. The first line are two phones that are being called the iPhone clones. The first one was basically an x86 iPhone based on Montevina. It will have a wide keyboard that can slide in half from each side, and you can type with your thumbs.
The keyboard does not step on the main screen area, you can type and see the net at the same time. The other phone is a clamshell device with functional screens on the outside.
It has a full x86 PC in a form factor and a full screen and keyboard. Intel also unleashed the new Mobile Internet Device (MID) and Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC) device categories.
The next generation of mobile devices will be built on Intel's new Menlow platform which will be more power efficient than the company's current called the McCaslin.
Menlow will use new 45 nanometer Hi-k low-power Silverthorne processors and the Poulsbo chipset. Other features included on the Menlow platform are 802.
11n wireless technology, 3G and WiMAX for extended broadband coverage. UMPC on the other hand will continue to feature larger screens, QWERTY keypads and will in most cases use Windows based operating systems.
