NOKIA COMMUNICATOR
9290 GSM
.................................

And now for something different: it's combined PDA and cell phone that's neither a Palm OS device nor a Pocket PC. Folks in Europe have had the pleasure of using the Nokia Communicator 9210 for quite a while, and it's been enormously popular there. Now it has come to the US as the Nokia Communicator 9290. Combining a GSM cell phone, mini-QWERTY keyboard and a Symbian OS color screen PDA into one, the Nokia may be just the thing for folks who are tired of stylus input and lugging around an external keyboard.

There is no stylus and the screen is not touch sensitive. Instead you'll use the keyboard and the 4 buttons to the right of the screen. These buttons aren't labeled because their functions change depending on which application you're using. Text indicating current button functions is displayed on the right side of the screen, aligned with the buttons. The menu key on the keyboard brings up an application's menu and you'll use the directional pad on the right lower corner of the keyboard to navigate menus, as well as web pages and documents.

The keyboard is very usable, though it's a bit small to be described as truly touch-typeable. Still I find it easier to use than thumb keyboards, and better than some of the old Windows HPCs that have been on the market. I do have slim fingers, so if you're a thick-fingered fella, you may find yourself hunting and pecking rather than touch-typing.

The screen displays 4,096 colors and is quite bright and sharp, though a bit hard to see outdoors in bright daylight. It is still usable in bright light, but the screen washes out a bit.

this is an old model and hard to find one a gsm 4096 color with qwerty keyboard is all it have

My father got this as a gift, I've been reviewing all smartphones available for sometime. And I've come to the conclusion (after using it) that Nokia 9300 beats all - if you're looking for a pure business phone. At the end of the day, pulling out a stylus just to type is kinda cumbersome. NOKIA N90
.....................
so after all the reveiw of NOKIA N 90 fone

The N90 is one awesome handset. Size to me does not really matter, I have always used many handsets which are big in size, the only disappointment of teh N90 is Nokia forgot to put in a vibrator, which I really miss. The camera is what it says to be, excellent. I have loaded many series sixty apps on the handset which works awesome. All I can say for people who don't worry about size, it's the phone to get.

well this is review from my freinds brother who lives in singapore.

At 112 x 51 x 24 mm and 173 g, the N90 is a behemoth of a smartphone - larger than all previous incarnations of the Series 60 platform from the Finnish manufacturer. The reason for its exuberant dimensions is simply a trade-off, however, as the clamshell device contains a 2 Megapixel digital camera equipped with swiveling Carl Zeiss optics and a built-in flash at the point of its hinge, and is also Nokia's first clamshell smartphone to include an external display.

Of the 65K colour variety with a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels, it doesn't hold a candle to the internal display, yet handily shows the signal strength and remaining battery; a wallpaper; the time; caller ID; and lets users view incoming SMS messages. Furthermore, it also does a good job of doubling as a viewfinder for the built-in camera, providing an interface to the full imaging functionality available through manipulation of a five-way joystick and the N90's dedicated capture key.

To activate this mode, users simply turn the lens in any direction away from its standby position and start snapping or recording immediately - a major advantage for when speed is of primary importance. The placement of the joystick, however, is clumsy at best when using the external screen as a viewfinder, and as such this mode is best used when shooting from the hip.

Pausing for a moment to look elsewhere on the outside of the N90, we find a proprietary Pop-port connector protected by a plastic insert that'll be lost faster than you can read this sentence, a hot-swappable RS-MMC card slot and - shockingly - a power input which isn't natively compatible with Nokia's standard chargers. Fortunately, a bundled conversion dongle alleviates this issue satisfactorily.
